一点もののハンドメイドニットを展開する「縷縷夢兎（るるむう）」を手掛ける東佳苗が、ハンドメイドから量産アイテムまでを扱う新ブランド「ルルムウ（rurumu:）」を2019年春夏に立ち上げた。
1989年福岡生まれの東は、学生時代に縷縷夢兎をスタートさせ、文化服装学院ニットデザイン科を卒業後はアーティストやアイドルの衣装デザイン、アートディレクター、空間演出といった様々な分野で活動。2015年には初監督作品「ヘビーシャビーガール」を公開するなど、映像作品も手掛けている。
縷縷夢兎はこれまで、女の子の"今"をデザインに落とし込んだ一点もののニットを不定期で開催される個展で販売してきた。一方でブランドを継続していくうちに、SNSではアイテム自体よりもイメージが先行して拡散されていくことを実感したという東は「実際に着てくれる人にもっとアイテムを届けたい」と考えるようになり、新ブランドの立ち上げに至ったという。
「大人になり振り返ってみると、青春は幻だったのでは」と感じたことがきっかけで採用したというファーストコレクションのテーマは、架空の青春を意味する「Fictional Youth」。幻かもしれないという点が新ブランドのイメージに合うとして、ブランドロゴにはうさぎの体に角が生えているUMA（未確認生物）のジャッカロープを採用した。
コレクションでは、縷縷夢兎の世界観とクオリティを担保するため新潟の工場と何度もサンプルチェックを繰り替えし、自身初の量産でありながらもデザインへのこだわりを追求。
